TAROT, MEDIUM

Performance, 2018-2023

I created Tarot, Medium as a performative project at the intersection of artistic practice, divination, and the search for creative identity. The project consists of 22 cards of the Major Arcana from the Marseille Tarot, each reimagined through the visual language of 20th- and 21st-century masters such as Marina Abramović, Marcel Duchamp, and Jackson Pollock, while retaining the formal aesthetics of the original 16th-century prints. These cards are not only visual objects but instruments for spiritualist séances, through which I guide artists and guests in discovering their own artistic trajectory and choosing the medium that resonates with them.

In my performance, I act as both medium and facilitator, drawing the cards and offering insight, while inviting participants to explore their creative path. The project is a reflection on the pressures contemporary artists face – to define a manifesto, select trending media, and navigate the art market. By combining ritualistic divination with artistic creation, I playfully highlight the tension between seeking external answers and the effort required to develop an authentic artistic voice.

Through Tarot, Medium, I offer a space where historical media and spiritualist practices become tools for reflection and self-discovery. Each card, each master, becomes a guide: not to hand you ready-made solutions, but to help you find the medium that truly belongs to you. My aim is to challenge the reliance on external validation and to encourage artists to embrace exploration, labour, and introspection as the true sources of their creative identity.
